The Florida Gators did not look like they were going to make it to the Final Four for most of their game against Texas Tech. Florida trailed by nine points going into the under-four media timeout in the second half. But the Gators got hot from three-point range and benefited from some missed free throws by the Red Raiders to complete a furious comeback and punch their ticket to San Antonio.
In this game, Florida will need to get off to a more convincing start than they did against Texas Tech and earlier in the tournament against UConn. We saw Auburn take a huge lead early against Michigan State, which allowed the Tigers to simply maintain that advantage the rest of the way. If Florida falls behind in a similar fashion to Michigan State against Auburn here, they could see their season end a game earlier than they’d like.
Auburn One Win Away From Title Game
Auburn jumped out to an early 15-point lead against Michigan State in the South regional final to help them advance to the Final Four. But Auburn saw star forward Johni Broome leave that game in the second half due to injury. Thankfully for the Tigers, Broome returned to the game and immediately knocked down a three, as Auburn managed to get to the Final Four with the health of their top star largely still in tact.
Beyond the health of Broome being a key to this game, Auburn will need to find a way to prevent Florida from getting hot from three-point range. Michigan State was not a good three-point shooting opponent, making that facet of their game less of a concern for Auburn on defense. But against Florida, lapses on the perimeter could be much more costly.
